SPICED ORANGES

(GIVEN TO ME BY A DEAR FRIEND, MARGARET MOIR, SPOKANE.)

9 MEDIUM NAVAL ORANGES
4 C. SUGAR
1 C. VINEGAR
1/2 C. WATER
1 T. WHOLE CLOVES
2 CINNAMON STICKS
1 SMALL PIECE OF FRESH GINGER

 

 

SLICE ORANGES 1/2 INCH THICK

PLACE ORANGES IN MEDIUM SIZE POT AND COVER WITH WATER
BRING TO BOIL, LOWER AND SIMMER FOR 30 MINUTES.
DRAIN.

IN ANOTHER POT COMBINE SUGAR, VINEGAR, WATER, CLOVES, CINNAMON, AND GINGER.
BOIL FOR 5 MINUTES.

ADD THE ORANGES, BRING TO A BOIL, LOWER AND SIMMER FOR 45 MINUTES.

CHILL AND SERVE WITH HAM OR PORK.
